Preventive Dental Treatments

  • Dental Prophylaxis

The medical term for a professional Dental cleaning, prophylaxis is purely a preventive measure. Part of your Dental check-up, prophylaxis is used to remove dental plaque and other irritants from the oral cavity. As these deposites build on your teeth, they form dental tartar, which contributes to most dental problems. Unfortunately ,some of these deposites can't be removed with regular brushing and flossing. Prophylaxis is one way to ensure a clean bill of oral health--at least for the next six months!
  • Dental Composite restoration

A dental composite restoration or dental filling is a treatment to restore the function, integrity, and morphology of missing tooth structure resulting from caries or external trauma. They are of two board types--direct and indirect-- and are further classified by location and size. A root canal filling, for example, is a restorative technique used to fill the space where the dental pulp normally resides.
  • Pit and Fissure sealant application

Dental sealants(pit and Fissure sealants) are a Dental treatment intended to prevent tooth decay. Teeth have recesses on their biting surfaces , back teeth have fissures(grooves) and some front teeth have cingulum pits. It is these pit and fissures which are most vulnerable to tooth decay because they are difficult to clean arears. Dental sealants are materials placed in these areas to fill them in, creating a smooth surface which is easy to clean. Dental sealants are mainly used in children who are at higher risk of tooth decay, and are usually placed as soon as the adult molar teeth come through.
  • Fluoride treatments

Fluoride is a mineral that helps prevent caries and can repair teeth in the very early , microscopic stages of the disease. The fluoride may be in the form of a solution, gel, foam or varnish. Typically, it is applied with cotton swab or brush, or it is used as a rinse or placed in a tray that is held in the mouth for several minutes. After treatment you may be asked not to rinse, eat, or drink for at least 30 minutes to allow the teeth to absorb the fluoride and help repair microscopic carious area. Depending on your oral health status, fluoride treatment may be recommended every three, six or 12 months.

Endodontic treatment

  • Root canal treatment (RCT)

Root canal treatment also known as endodontic therapy , endodontic treatment is a treatment sequence for the infected pulp of a tooth which results in the elimination of infection and the protection of the decontaminated tooth from future microbial invasion. During root canal treatment , dentist carefully removes the pulp inside the tooyh, cleans, disinfects and shapes the root canals, and places a filling to seal the root canal space.
  • Apicoectomy

Although there are many surgical procedures that can be performed to save a ooth, the most common is called apicoectomy or root-end resection. When inflammation or infection persists in the bony area around the end of your tooth after a root canal procedure, your endodontist may have to perform an apicoectomy.
  • Post and core treatment

A post and core crown is a type of dental restoration required where there is an inadequate amount of sound tooth tissue remaining to retain a conventional crown. A post is cemented into a prepared root canal, which retains a core restoration, which retains the final crown. The role of the post is firstly to retain a core restoration and crown, and secondly to redistribute stresses down onto the root, thereby reducing the risk of coronal fracture.

Prosthodontic treatment

  • Dental crowns and bridge

A Dental crown is used to entirely cover or "cap" a damaged tooth. Besides strengthening a damaged tooth, a crown can be used to improve its appearance, shape or alignment. A crown can also be placed on top of an implant to provide a tooth-like shape and structure for function. Porcelain or ceramic crowns can be matched to the color of your natural teeth. Other materials include gold and metal alloys, acrylic ,ceramic and Zirconia. A Dental bridge may be recommended if you're missing one or more teeth. Gaps left by missing teeth eventually cause the remaining teeth to rotate or shift into the empty spaces, resulting in a bad bite. The imbalance caused by missing teeth can also lead to gum disease and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.Bridges are commonly used to replace one or more missing teeth.
  • Complete and partial denture

A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. Two types of dentures are available -- complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are used when all the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.
  • Dental veneers

Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size, or length. Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin veneers and better mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. You will need to discuss the best choice of veneer material for you with your dentist.
  • Dental Implants

A Dental implant is a titanium post (like a tooth root) that is surgically positioned into the jawbone beneath the gum line that allows your dentist to mount replacement teeth or bridge into that area. An implant doesn't come loose like a denture can. Dental implants also benefit general oral health because they do not have to be anchored to other teeth, like bridges. Dental implant can do wonders for self-esteem, because it feels and looks like a normal tooth. Many people who were shy about smiling because of a space from a lost tooth feel more comfortable after a dental implant. Beyond the aesthetics, a dental implant also makes it easier to eat and speak, because a titanium post secured directly in the jaw holds the implant in place.

Exodontia

  • Dental extraction

Dental Extractions (tooth removal) are performed for a wide variety of reasons, but most commonly to remove teeth which have become unrestorable through tooth decay, periodontal disease, or dental trauma, especially when they are associated with toothache. In orthodontics if the teeth are crowded, sound teeth may be extracted (often bicuspids) to create space so the rest of the teeth can be straightened.
  • Wisdom tooth extraction or disimpaction

Wisdom teeth are the third and last molars on each side of the upper and lower jaws. They are also the final teeth to erupt; they usually come in when a person is in their late teens or early twenties. As wisdom teeth are the last permanent teeth to come in, or erupt, there is often not enough room left in your mouth to accommodate them. This can lead to wisdom teeth that are impacted (below the gum line and not erupted). If teeth are impacted, swelling and tenderness may occur in the area of the third molar.
